Bright scarlet, neat single flowers open flat to decorate a bushy shrub whose neat foliage has a dark red tinge. This is a handsome plant, and due to its size serves as an excellent choice for a low hedge or border. Our original cuttings come from a Navasota gardener, Martha Gonzales, whose display of ‘Mrs. Dudley Cross’, ‘Old Blush’ and this rose could be seen from blocks away. ‘Martha Gonzales’ has become very popular with area landscapers for mass plantings and large drifts.

We get great enjoyment from watching this large flowering Polyantha rose to bloom its heart out for us in our growing field. The cupped, semi-double, bright rose-pink blooms of 'Mrs. R. M. Finch' are borne in delicate clusters and fade to a light pinkish-white with age. The fragrance is light and clean. Bushy and vigorous in growth habit, this rose shows no evidence of disease problems.

'Nearly Wild' is a cheery rose and sure to brighten any space in the garden. Small, tapered, yet pointed buds open to five-petaled rose-pink blooms reminiscent of apple blossoms. The bush is ideally suited as a low hedge if planted closely together, as it is compact, full, and almost always in bloom. We have seen beautiful mass plantings of this rose in the East.

This dainty little rose has a powerful perfume that can scent an entire room. 'Perle d'Or' has buds that are similar to ‘Cécile Brünner’ and change from nearly orange to golden pink as they unfold in small clusters. The silky petals curl back neatly upon opening into a delicate pompom shape. Foliage is soft apple green, healthy, and full a plant that is seldom out of bloom.

This rose was found in 1949 by Jackson M. Batchelor of Willard, North Carolina, growing in the garden of a 1750’s plantation home on the Cape Fear River, near Wilmington, N.C. The area was originally settled by Scottish and English immigrants and Mr. Batchelor speculates that this rose came with them, which explains its name. (The rose shows no relationship to the ‘Scotch Rose’, R. spinosissima.) He sent plants to the National Arboretum in 1956, where it was rated as an outstanding groundcover shrub for slopes. We find that this once blooming rose makes a superb and graceful low hedge.

This rose was named in honor of  the Texas Rose Rustler and rose breeder, Ray Ponton.  One inch, clustered,  mauve flowers smother the bush when it is in bloom.  Given the diminutive size of this very floriferous rose, planting in mass along walkways or in containers would be ideal.

These delicate single pink flowers of 'Roemer's Hip Happy' are reminiscent of wild buttercups. Thornless, with dark green foliage, this rose’s most interesting quality is the enormous crop of hips that it reliably displays. Plants are small but bushy to four feet and will repeat with lots of fall blooms only if the hips are removed. Ferdinand Roemer was an early German naturalist that collected plant specimens near New Braunfels, TX.

A very dwarf shrub with a continuous display of small, but nicely shaped, double, lilac-pink flowers less than 1/2 inch across. This diminutive plant is excellent as a low border, and an obvious natural for containers.

Originally known as 'Queen of Beauty and Fragrance' this rose received its present name when one of the Grand Dukes of Russia obtained a specimen from the gardens at Malmaison for the Imperial Garden in St. Petersburg. 'Souvenir de la Malmaison' produces large, flat, quartered blossoms with petals of pale, almost flesh colored pink and a delightful fragrance. The compact bush rarely grows more than three feet, seemingly spending all its energy on blooming rather than growing.
