Fans of our found rose, study-named "Climbing Lady Pamela" will be interested to know that with much help from expert rosarians we have identified it. By its new name it still smells sweet, with honey-scented flowers of cream-yellow washed with pink covering the entire plant in wild profusion several times each spring. 'Souvenir de Mme. Leonie Viennot' is one of our most vigorous climbers.

This lovely old Tea has very double, fragrant flowers of copper-red shaded with cherry that open from rather long buds to nearly flats. A sturdy plant with plenty of foliage,' General Schablikine' is ideally suited for hedging or as a specimen.

Though its parents are unknown, ‘Safrano’ is recorded by Roy Shepherd as "the result of the first successful attempt to control parentage by hand pollination", thereby introducing a new era in rose breeding. This rose has double, well scented flowers of bright fawn, with long-pointed buds. It was once described exhibiting "lovely buds of sunset coloring... saffron to apricot in the bud, changing to pale buff... A pretty and hardy variety, worthy of a place in every collection..." The new shoots of foliage are plum colored, contrasting nicely with the blossoms.

With larger flowers than most teas, 'Madame Wagram' has full blooms of a perfect pink. Very exquisite in shape and color, we are especially fond of its rich fragrance which reminds us of a Bourbon or Hybrid Perpetual than of the softer Tea scent. Plants are very vigorous but are best kept at four feet.

Once the most important yellow rose grown, an 1889 magazine writer enthused, "Its large, full, well formed, canary yellow flowers, borne on stiff stems, make this variety especially desirable for bouquets and artistic floral decorations, while the dark and glaucous foliage of the plant furnishes an excellent setting for the fragrant, delicately hued blooms." We can forgive ‘Perle des Jardins’ for its tendency to ball in humid weather for the roses you are rewarded with are truly lovely.

Our stock plant of 'Dr. Grill' came from Peter Beales of England, who describes it as a branching, angular plant a little short on foliage, but whose flowers are "exquisite, pink overlaid with copper. High centered in bud but opening flat and full, sometimes quartered."

This climbing form of ‘White Maman Cochet’ is a rare treat in the word of Tea roses. An extremely vigorous climber, this rose has exquisite, delicate, multi-petaled white blooms blushing to pale pink. It tends to bloom heaviest in the spring with some repeat in the fall once established. The nodding flowers make it the perfect rose to add drama to an entry way arbor.

The very double flowers of 'Enchantress' are dark rose-pink that fade to near crimson, with just a touch of bright yellow hidden at the petal’s base. The bush is sturdy and upright, with full, neatly shaped foliage. The freely-produced flowers have a pleasant, cool fragrance that makes an interesting contrast with the warm color. It is said that the color of this rose is "enchanting."

A ‘Madame de Tartas’ seedling, and an old favorite which has proven itself over the years. ‘Madame Lombard’ has large, very double, fragrant flowers which are rosy salmon but display a deeper center upon opening. The color is vibrant in the cool weather of spring and fall.

In our garden, 'Mme. Antoine Rebe' blooms often with vivid single roses like big butterflies, in shades of dark pink, crimson and scarlet. The free blooming qualities as well as the chunky growth habit of the bush are indicative of its China parentage ('Princesse de Sagan'.) In literature, its unique color has been described as "sparkling" with which we can concur.

‘Papa Gontier’ is a wonderful eye-popping red Tea rose that makes an ideal specimen in any garden. Growth is slow the first year, but like most Teas, it more than makes up for it the second and third year. The new growth is a bronze color and is very showy. The rose was bred by the French rose breeder, Nabonnand.

This rose, named for the Dutch painter, is as large and full-blown as the ladies for whom that great master’s works are famous. As if it had been painted several hundred years ago and the varnish allowed to age, these roses are a lovely tawny color with shades of rose. This rose would be an excellent white choice to incorporate into your garden.
