Peter Beales of England has identified this rose as ‘Adam’, which is believed to be the first of the Tea roses, thus the name is quite appropriate. It has fully double, salmon-pink blooms with hints of apricot and buff. ‘Adam’ can get quite large in comparison to other Teas and would be best if used in the back of a planting or as a short climber. The more we study this rose, the more we like it.

Lots of dark, leathery foliage provides a backdrop for large, fully double (58 petals) flowers of rose pink with a deeper pink reverse. ‘Aloha’ is reminiscent of some of the best big fat Hybrid Perpetuals, but it blooms much more often. This climber is just right for a pillar or trellis, yet will also stand alone as a shrub.

‘Amazone’ is a seedling of the apricot Tea, ‘Safrano’. This would explain its lovely soft buttery yellow coloration. The golden buds are high centered and open to a three inch, well formed rose which reflexes at maturity. The foliage is accentuated with red venation and typical of Teas, displays red new growth.

'American Beauty' has beautiful globular buds that open to large cupped flowers of deep, glowing pink with an excellent perfume. This rose blooms for us repeatedly, with a good display in spring and fall as well as a scattering of flowers during the summer. The tall, erect bush is quite vigorous once established and the canes are usually thornless.

'Alma de l’Aigle', a European rosarian, must have pleased the grower greatly to have had this exquisite rose named after her! The flowers are much larger than most Hybrid Musks, blooming in clusters of fat, light pink roses that are faintly flushed with salmon in cooler weather. This rose is somewhat slow growing but is a prolific bloomer in spring and fall, with an excellent fragrance.

Thomas Rivers called 'Archduke Charles' "changeable as the chameleon". The full, very shapely flowers open with crimson outer petals and neat pink centers, then darken to solid crimson. The heat of the sun speeds the process: what appears to be a bi-color hedge in spring and fall will be all red roses in mid-summer. The neat, erect bush and constant bloom help make this one of our most popular varieties.

This is quite probably the plant that writers in antiquity described as the Four Seasons Rose of Paestum. 'Autumn Damask' is the only one of the Old European roses to repeat its bloom, and some rosarians have suggested that it is a species hybrid with R. chinensis, created where the far edges of their ranges touch. Its garden value is undeniable, with richly fragrant flowers occurring in abundance on a compact, hardy shrub in spring, followed by scattered blossoms through the summer and fall. Light pink and double, this ruffled rose contains a good measure of Damask scent, possibly the finest perfume in the rose world.

We are very fond of this rose and it has become one of our many favorites. Single roses blooming in sprays of three distinct colors ranging from soft apple-pink to a dusty rose decorate this open bush that can reach five feet or more. This leads many to think it may be a seedling of 'Mutabilis'. We can easily overlook "Bermuda's Kathleen's" lack of fragrance because of its continual bloom and delicate, yet healthy foliage.
